Dr. Indrajit GHOSH

VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, EU

Position: Group Leader and Senior Researcher at Materials-Envi (ME) Lab at the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET) at VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Specialization: Design and synthesis of functional nanomaterials for applications in photochemical synthetic transformations; Catalysis; Supramolecular Chemistry.

At the NANOCON´25 conference, Indrajit Ghosh will present the invited talk “Photoredox Catalysis with One or Two Photons & an Electron Transfer” at the Session B Industrial and Environmental Applications of Nanomaterials.

Personal Background and Education:

Indrajit Ghosh received his M. SC. in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in 2007 and his M. SC. in Nanomolecular Science at Jacobs University Bremen in 2010, Germany. At this university, he completed also his Ph. D. in Chemistry with distinction in 2013, under the supervision of Prof. Werner M. Nau. During his postdoctoral period (2013 to 2025), he worked at the Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Regensburg, Bayern, Germany. Also, he spent a one-year stay (Jan-Dec 2017) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany.

Currently (from 2025), Dr. Indrajit Ghosh is a Group Leader and Senior Researcher at MELab in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Research interests:

During his postdoctoral research with Prof. Burkhard König (University of Regensburg) and Prof. Markus Antonietti (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces), Dr. Ghosh played a pivotal role in advancing synthetic photoredox chemistry. As a first or corresponding author, he pioneered transformative concepts such as ConPET, SenI-ET, chromo-selective catalysis, and AD-HoC catalysis. Additionally, he contributed to semiconductor catalysis using mpg-CN, enabling the "double functionalization" of inert C-H bonds in heteroarenes.

His research work at MELab lies at the interface of materials science and organic chemistry, with a focus on the rational design and synthesis of functional materials (including single-entity catalysts) for applications in photochemical synthetic transformations, particularly addressing reactions that are traditionally considered challenging.

Summary of publication activity:

Author and co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed publications, which have been cited approximately 6,000 times, reflecting a current H-index of ≥ 33, (Google Scholar), February 2025); ORCID ID
